Electronic Free Fun This Back To School Season With Parragon #BackToSchoolWithParragon

Parents like myself all over the world are on the hunt for more ways to keep our kids engaged without being tied to an electronic device.  Parragon has lots of great options for kids of all ages to help build their brain while keeping them engaged in activities not involving electronics.  I received Professor Murphy’s Brain-Busting Puzzles & Riddles, Craft Factory Dinosaur Stencil Activity, and Factivity Space to try out with my kids this Back To School season and they were a big hit!

My sons are 11 and 13 and they really enjoyed the Professor Murphy’s Brain Busting Puzzles & Riddles.  These puzzles are easy enough for younger children like mine, but at the same time challenging enough that a few had me stumped…until we found the answer.  Some of them are funny, some of them are confusing, and some of them are just plain for training your brain.  Seeing my teen/tween sons having fun with a book was the best feeling ever…I’m one happy mom over here!  No electronic cords, no screens to stare at, just a good old fashioned book in hand, nothing could be better.

Factivity Space is a great educational tool as well as a way for kids to have fun while they learn.  My daughter (who will be 5 in a few weeks) loves learning, and this was a great way to share some extra knowledge with her.  The Factivity book is full of great information about space, and gets children’s imagination running.  The colorable poster and puzzle are a really nice touch.  The included colored pencils are perfect for however your little artist wants to create their poster or puzzle.

Last but not least is the Craft Factory Dinosaur Stencil Activity.  This was my daughter’s absolute favorite of the Parragon books that we have tried.

You can only see a small portion of the posters in the background, but we have that whole wall covered in educational posters.  I am doing preschool curriculum at home with my daughter and we’ve actually worked the Dinosaur Stencil Activity Book into our lesson plans.  This book helps build fine motor skills while helping encourage holding the pencil the proper way.  There’s no better way to learn than having fun while doing it.

These are just a few of TONS of children’s books that Parragon has to offer, make sure you check out their entire selection.  You’ll be sure to find one (of a few) that are just right for your children.

I received Power Food, The Sugar-Free Kitchen, and The Superfood Kitchen and I am so thrilled with these books!  The greatest thing for me is that the nutrition facts are all there in the books, no need for me to have to calculate and see if it’s something I can have…it’s all labeled right there and I get to enjoy every last one of these recipes.

Power Food is a small book, but don’t let that fool you.  It has over 100 easy, wholesome recipes that pack a nutritious punch.  Each recipe is bursting with powerful natural ingredients and offering a dynamic combination of vitamins, minerals, and essential trace elements.  There are so many great options for meals throughout the day so you can choose how you want to power up your day.  Choose from kick-start breakfasts, energy boosting snacks, protein packed main courses, and even irresistible desserts that feel like something you shouldn’t eat, but is good for you.

The Sugar Free Kitchen is a great way to help us cut back the amount of sugar that we consume.  It seems that sugar is hidden in everything these days and we all wonder why obesity is such an issue these days.  With recipes from breakfast, snacks, lunches, dinners, desserts, and even baked goods, you can choose where you want to cut the sugar, or create a whole day’s plan using this fabulous cookbook.

The Superfood Kitchen is full of ingredients that are nutrition powerhouses…foods that are packed with vitamins and minerals for the ultimate health boost, improving energy levels and strengthening health and well-being.  The Superfood Kitchen is a great collection of feel-good foods that the whole family will be able to enjoy.  There is lots of great information about the superfoods you’ll find inside, and why it’s important to include these in our diets.  Recipes available from breakfast, snacks, lunches, main dishes, to desserts and baking.  Who knew good-for-you could taste SO good?

Lola The Therapy Dog Book Series #Review

Meet Marcia Goldman and Lola the therapy dog.  Marcia has her Masters Degree in Special Education and has spent the last 25 years focusing on providing therapeutic-based programs for children with autism and their families.  Lola is a five-pound Yorkshire Terrier who lives in California with her adoring owners. She is a proudly certified therapy dog who makes weekly visits to elder care centers, bookstores, and classrooms.  Together Marcia and Lola have created a wonderful book series that helps educate children about therapy animals.

I received books from the series and my daughter loves learning all about Lola.  We also received a cute little plush Lola to go along with the books!

In Lola Goes To School, Lola has her first day at Doggy Daycare. Like anyone new to preschool or kindergarten, she’s a little bit nervous, a little bit scared, and very excited.  Children will identify with Lola as she faces first-day-of-school jitters…perfect for my 4 year old who will be attending kindergarten next year.

Lola Goes To Work is a great book to show children how through hard work and determination, anyone (no matter how small) can achieve their goals.  Lola is a little terrier with a big job! Children will identify with the feisty Lola as she struggles going to school, passing tests, and finally achieving her Big Dog dream. If Lola can make it in a world of Great Danes and Labradors, so can anybody who’s feeling like a runt.

Lola Goes To The Doctor is a great way to help children overcome their fear of the doctor.  Children will identify with Lola as she nervously waits to be called into the doctor’s office.  Kids will see how Lola is brave through her doctor’s visit, and that they can be brave too.

Last but not least, Lola and Tattletale Zeke is a great way to teach children how to deal with tattletales, and when to tell an adult.  Lola struggles with her little brother Zeke and his tattletale behavior in this sequel to Lola Goes to Work.

Marcia and Lola are a favorite among many children and families, and once you read the Lola books, you’ll see why.  These books are full of great lessons behind fun stories that children enjoy.

Encourage Reading With Interactive Hot Dots Storybooks #Review

logo_new (1)

Sometimes it can be difficult to get kids to read as often as we’d like them to.  Reading can sometimes feel like a bore to younger children, but Educational Insights has totally changed the way you and your child will read stories.  Hot Dots Jr. Famous Fables Interactive Storybook Set is making reading fun, and even more educational than before!

The Hot Dots Jr. Famous Fables set comes with 4 fantastic storybooks that have great life lessons to be learned in every book.  Ollie the talking owl will help guide you and your child through the correct or incorrect responses and is a huge motivator to kids when they see Ollie’s eyes light up green when your they choose a correct answer.  This set is great for children ages 3-6, and my 4 year old daughter took to these stories and Ollie right away.

The Grasshopper and the Ant is my daughter’s favorite story of them all, she really likes this one!  Throughout the 4 books there are 11 interactive, early learning activities that help build confidence.  These storybooks help support the understanding of numbers and counting; making comparisons; understanding patterns and rhyme; and other early learning skills crucial for school success.  My daughter is starting to get really good at answering the questions without me helping her find the right answer which lets me know that these books are doing their job.  My daughter is being encouraged to read all while having tons of fun.  Ollie has 17 different speech and sound-effect responses which makes my daughter believe Ollie is really real, because he doesn’t say the same thing every time.

With Back To School on every parents mind, I can’t imagine a better time to introduce a Hot Dots set to your child.  If your child is older, and needs something a little more challenging, make sure you check out all of the Hot Dots sets available through Educational Insights.

I was given the opportunity to review a couple DK items with my daughter and we are so happy with the books that we received!

My Encyclopedia of Very Important Things‘ is a fun, entertaining way to learn all about anything a little reader could possibly want to know.

Learning takes on a storybook feel, being told through “Once upon a time” stories and graphic novel elements. The padded cover (front and back) and ribbon bookmark make it the perfect book for young readers’ hands.  My Encyclopedia of Very Important Things explores the whole big wide world including animals, people, planets, and of course, you!  You can learn about what happens when you skin your knee and what makes family members family.  Explore the past with cavemen, vikings, and pharaohs.  Learn how plants go from seed to flour, and see what clouds are made up of.  You and your little one will have fun learning all about these things and going out and exploring.

Sometimes, girls just want to have fun.  What better way to have fun than with a Monster High Ultimate Sticker Collection?

This Monster High Ultimate Sticker Collection is packed with cool images of the friends who attend Monster High. Meet the students and learn all about them, their best ghoulfriends, teachers, and pets.  This collection  combines creeperific captions with over 1,000 stickers and activities for fans to sink their teeth into.  This book lets readers discover lots of fun facts about their favorite Monster High characters while placing the themed, reusable stickers on colorful backgrounds. To add to the fun, kids can use the extra stickers on lockers, binders, or just about anywhere!

My daughter will be 5 next month and we’ve been working together on some things at home since she misses the birthday deadline for kindergarten.  You may think this book looks like just stickers and fun, but I see it as a great way to teach my daughter matching shapes and helping her build fine motor skills like hand-eye coordination.  Thanks to the shadowed spaces where you place the stickers my daughter has gotten really good at shape matching.  She’s also built a great deal of hand control making those stickers go on just perfect.

These are just a couple of the great books that DK Publishing offers…make sure you check them out this Back To School Season to find the perfect books to help enhance your child’s learning.

Personalize Your Child’s Reading Experience With Put Me In The Story

There is no better gift than a personalized one.  I fell in love with Put Me In The Story as soon as I found their products.  Not only were they books my daughter would absolutely love, but I could personalize them and make them truly special for her.  With SO many books to choose from I had a hard time narrowing it down, but I found a couple of books that were going to be perfect.

The Night Before Christmas is a story that is part of our family’s holiday tradition.  My husband reads it every Christmas Eve while my kids and I curl up on the couch with hot cocoa and listen.  When I found ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas’ with the option of personalizing it, I knew this was going to be one of the books I selected.  I added the perfect picture of my little one with Santa and added my own little personal note for her.  I LOVE how the title is ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas at Jade’s House’.  My daughter loves it too!

A nice little bonus at the back of the book was a page to make our own ornament for the tree.  My daughter loves seeing her own ornament on the tree of her and the jolly man himself.

My daughter (thanks to her older brothers) really loves Spongebob Squarepants.  Goodnight Lagoon was the perfect choice!  My daughter loves bedtime stories so combining two of her favorites put quite the big smile on her face.  Since it’s a bedtime story I thought the perfect picture for a personalized touch would be a picture I snapped when she crawled into bed with Daddy and went back to sleep after an early rise kinda morning.  She loves the story, the picture, note from mommy, and loves seeing her name again on the cover of the book…’A bedtime story for Jade’.

I think books should be a big part of children’s lives.  Giving the gift of literacy helps set them out on a path for a successful future.  Personalize their stories to encourage a higher desire to read and succeed in life with Put Me In The Story.
