Week 6 On Nutrisystem…Comfort Foods You Can Rely On

Well guys, I can’t even begin to explain how rough the past couple of weeks have been for me.  Remember my last Nutrisystem post where I was recovering from the flu and eager to get back on the plan hardcore?  Yeah…life had a totally different plan in mind for me.  After beginning to feel better from the flu for about 36 hours I was completely blindsided by what came my way just those short hours later.  I began to feel even worse than I had before and started running a dangerous fever that just wouldn’t break.  Even with alternating acetamenophin and ibuprofen every 4 hours and taking cool baths and laying with a cold rag on my head my fever was barely breaking from 104 degrees + to just under 102 degrees.  After 5 days of this fever that just wouldn’t break I decided it was time to seek medical attention.

(My DOB is whited out for my privacy 🙂 )

Turns out, that awful flu ushered in an awful case of pneumonia.  After a short stay in the hospital I was sent on my way with antibiotics and a different inhaler than the one I use for my asthma.  After finishing my round of antibiotics, I was still not any better.  I had to be hospitalized a second time, this time with stronger, steroid based medication.

While I was sick, you can imagine how hard it was to even try and stay alive every day, let alone worry about eating, and eating right at that.  Lack of calories daily coupled with steroidal medication helped me have 2 weeks of stalled weight loss…whoopie (and I throw in that ‘whoopie’ quite sarcastically).

Although it was hard to get my daily meals in, I can say that I was truly grateful for some of my favorite comfort foods that are also on the Nutrisystem plan.  Mac and Cheese and Pizza are two of my favorite comfort foods, and I tended to stick with those when I felt like eating.

Now that I’m back to being *mostly* better, I am ready to tackle this beast again.  Although I’m not well enough to work out or walk on my treadmill yet (my lungs are still a bit congested), I’m up to the challenge of getting back onto the horse…again.  This WILL be a better week, and I WILL get back to my old self again. Watch out weight loss world…HERE I COME!!!

Week 4 On Nutrisystem: Accepting Things Beyond Our Control And Moving Forward Strong

What a freakin’ week it’s been guys!  No matter where you live, if you watch the news I’m positive you’ve heard how bad this flu season is.  Until this past week, we had been lucky and escaped the ravenous germs and it invaded our household with a vengeance y’all!

Last week I told my son to avoid one of his friends until his flu symptoms had passed.  Of course, being the teenager that he is, he knew better.  We stay up to date on vaccines and we take daily vitamins so, no way the germs would matter to us right?  *Insert eye roll here*  I’m sure you can imagine, not only did my son hang out with his sick friend, but thought it would be a GREAT idea to share a drink too!  Within two days my teenage son, 6 year old daughter and myself were sick, shortly followed by my husband and other son (although they recovered quickly, thank goodness).  On top of dealing with my flu symptoms for 5 days, I also had a super-sick 6 year old running a fever of 103.5 that was only breaking to a mere 100 even after alternating acetaminophen and ibuprofen as well as utilizing cool baths and washcloths on her forehead.  Me being the worrier that I am, I was sure that one of my kids were going to be one of the ones we hear about that has lost their life to severe flu symptoms this year so I had my daughter sleep in bed with me so I could check on her around the clock.  Lack of sleep seemed to have made my sickness linger and I’m just starting to feel mostly better today.

So, what does all this have to do with my week on Nutrisystem?  Absolutely EVERYTHING!  I have to admit that my daily calorie count while sick was disgusting.  On a *good* day, I was consuming about 500 calories, most of that crackers and light soup.  After so many days of so little calories my body seems to have thought I was starving and held on to every bit it could, making my scale not budge one bit this week.  Sometimes, these things are just out of our control but I refuse to look at it as defeat.  This WILL be a better week, I WILL get to enjoy my favorite Nutrisystem foods, and I’m positive I WILL see results next week as I’m back to the plan ready and eager this week!

Before the nightmare of a week set in, I did manage to have a delicious breakfast that happens to be one of my favorite breakfast meals.  The frozen cinnamon roll is a great way to feel like you’re breaking all the ‘diet’ rules when you’re completely following the plan.  Talk about winning!  I love pairing my cinnamon roll with fat-free milk as my morning powerfuel for a great tasting, filling, and nutritious breakfast to fuel the day.

I look forward to having a much better week to share with you all next week, so stay tuned, because the show ain’t over yet!!

Week 3 on Nutrisystem: Great Food To Keep You Going

Who’s ready for a new week?  I know I am!  After a great weigh-in this morning, and a weekly loss of 2 lbs, I’m feeling pretty great, and ready to continue to tackle this beast we call weight loss.  For those who know me, it’s no surprise that I’m a SUPER picky eater, and often order the same things from the same places because there’s not much that makes me wander out of my comfort zone.  One of the things that I LOVE about Nutrisystem is the great selection of food that you’ll hardly believe is ‘diet’.  For the ladies here, you’ll completely understand when I say there are times of the month that I can’t live without certain foods.  Go without a burger or chocolate?  GASP!  Thanks to the fantastic food Nutrisystem offers, you can have a bit of everything!

There are a couple breakfast items that I just couldn’t live without, and that’s waffles and cereal.  Nutrisystem has some of the best frozen buttermilk waffles you’ll ever taste (and yes, they’ve got super yummy cereal too!).  I love pairing my waffles with a turkey sausage patty and sugar free syrup for a delicious breakfast that’s perfect for fueling my body after my workout and getting me through the rest of the day.

Mmmm…hamburgers.  (Insert Homer Simpson style drooling here.)  I absolutely could not live without a big juicy burger which is why I’m SO thankful that Nutrisystem has delicious and filling  hamburgers.  I pop mine in the microwave for 1 minute, then toast the bun and burger patty in a pan for a few minutes.  I love to top mine with some lettuce and spicy pickle slices, yummy!

Yes!  You’re seeing that right, it’s Nutrisystem chocolate!  As simple as these little chocolate nibs are, they are hands down, my favorite dessert offered.  There are just some days that I absolutely couldn’t survive without a little bit of chocolate.  Whether it’s from a Nutrisystem chocolate breakfast muffin, various different chocolatey lunch bars, the delicious shakes or different desserts, there are TONS of way to get your chocolate fix with Nutrisystem.  I love being able to mix it up throughout the day, and I love knowing if I want to have chocolate for dessert I can.

Make sure you guys check back next week, I can’t wait to see how the plan continues to work for me!

Recommitting Myself To Nutrisystem In 2018

If you have followed my blog for the past couple of years (or more) you’ll likely remember the journey I went through in 2016 to find a happier healthier me. Thanks to Nutrisystem, I was able to lose 55 pounds, reach my goal weight, and feel better than ever about myself.
The last half of 2017 was a pretty tough time for me. There were various reasons that my stress levels were sky-high and I have to admit that I did not handle the stress as well as I could have. Then the holidays hit and what else comes with holidays? Sugary, delectable treats. With my stress mounting higher than ever and so many hard to resist treats around, my life-long struggle with food won and here I am facing 2018 thirteen pounds heavier than what my goal weight was, which I struggled so hard to get to. Rather than let my weight spiral out of control I decided I was going to do something about it, and recommit myself to my health and wellness this year.

Today marks the start of my new Nutrisystem journey with more clear goals in my sights this time around. In 2016 I was so incredibly focused on that number on the scale. Those little digits on a scale were my defining moments, which led me to lose the weight, yes, but this time around I’m looking to make a complete lifestyle change. While working on losing the 13 lbs gained, I want to improve my stamina, improve my endurance, strengthen my cardiovascular system, and improve my flexibility as well. I am completely recommitting myself to my health and wellness this year and I couldn’t imagine doing it any other way than with Nutrisystem.

This first week will be my ‘Turbo week’ which means pretty restricted calories to help kick off the weight loss and get my body geared up and my metabolism revving. Since the first week does have such restricted calories I won’t be able to stat any workouts just yet, but I have a brand new treadmill arriving on Wednesday so that once Turbo Week is over I can kick things into high gear. I’m so pumped for this new year and the new me that will be emerging along with it. Stay tuned folks…the best is yet to come!!

Week 46 on Nutrisystem…Maintaining Is A Whole New Beast! #NSNation #Ad

O_64b0fea1b7e98c5c5b71df2f84ff768cnutrisystem_logo

What an incredible journey this has been so far!  Week 46 on Nutrisystem is here and I’m so ready to tackle this new week!  As I enter the maintenance phase, it’s a whole new beast trying to figure out exactly what works for me.  Each person and their metabolism are different and will need different things to maintain, just the same as losing weight.  I have been adding in additional portions which worked for the first week, but I was surprised to step on the scale and see that this past week I’ve lost a pound.  I had a particularly busier week than usual so I’m realizing that I need to fluctuate what I eat based on my activity, which can be a little tricky but I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it.

IMG_20161122_124430.jpg

I’m still eating the Nutrisystem foods as I learn to maintain…it will help me get through the holiday season before I totally go on my own to maintain.  I’m SUPER glad I made this decision, especially today.  On rough days I always find myself wanting candy, particularly bite-size candy bars that are easy to pop in and eat.  I found a great trick that helps me get through these cravings while still staying completely on plan.  I like to cut the lunch bars into small chunks so they are just the same size as those little bite-size candies.  Because the lunch bars taste just like a candy bar anyway, it’s a perfect compromise to satisfy my cravings without destroying all of my hard work.  As I (unfortunately) mark the 5 year anniversary of a friends murder today, I found myself having those same old cravings.  I went to my go-to trick to help quiet the candy cravings and I realized I’d never shared this trick with you all!  If you’re struggling to get over the sugar cravings on rough days I really recommend this trick!  You’ll eat the bar much slower, feel fuller, and feel like you’re indulging without straying off plan one bit.

I can’t wait to see how Nutrisystem helps me through the holidays, stay tuned for weekly check-ins!

Week 45 on Nutrisystem…GOOAAALLLLL!! #NSNation #Ad

Week 45 on Nutrisystem sure did sneak up quickly on me!  I have met my original goal of 50 lbs PLUS an additional 5.5 lbs lost and I have never felt better.  I have been adding in additional foods now that I’ve entered my maintenance phase and I think I’m pretty close to figuring out what works for me.  I lost .5 lbs this week so I obviously need to add just a bit more but so far so good.

15027441_10209250144865353_5426338558275898259_n.jpg

My beautiful little gold Goal bear arrived and I have to tell you I never thought I’d be so happy about a little stuffed bear.  This bear symbolizes all of the hard work and dedication that has gone into this weight loss journey thus far.  I keep this gold bear easily visible in my living room to help remind me the dedication I’ve had to see this through.  With the kids humongous stash of Halloween candy it sure has been hard, but seeing this little gold bear all day long helps me remember what that awful junk did to me, which led me to Nutrisystem in the first place.

I can’t wait to see how Nutrisystem helps me through the holidays, stay tuned for weekly check-ins!

Week 44 on Nutrisystem…Keeping Healthy Habits #NSNation #Ad

O_64b0fea1b7e98c5c5b71df2f84ff768cnutrisystem_logo

Week 44 is here and I’m feeling fabulous!  When I started Nutrisystem, my goal weight was 130 lbs.  Throughout the journey I decided I would try for 120 lbs instead and see how I felt.  Well, after reaching 125 lbs I actually felt pretty satisfied with where I was and now am entering my maintaining phase.  I would have never in a million years imagined that I would reach my goal PLUS an additional 5 lbs…CRAZY!!

BMI.jpg

I didn’t realize how much of a difference 55 lbs would be.  You can see from the BMI index above, when I started Nutrisystem at 180 lbs, I was not a healthy person, not even close.  Not only was I considered ‘overweight’, but ‘obese’.  Ouch…that one really stung.  As I’ve told you all before, losing my father due to his obesity related health issues was a big motivator for me.  I didn’t want my children to endure the same thing.  Not only are you losing weight, but you are improving your overall health and increasing your life span…what a wonderful gift to yourself and the ones that love you!

After telling my kids I had finally reached my goal, they were so excited and so proud of me and I can’t begin to describe to you how good that felt.  The next day, I had a Nutrisystem bar for breakfast, a Nutrisystem lunch bar for lunch, and one of my favorite flex dinners in a slightly larger portion.  By lunch time my 5 year old was questioning me why I was still eating ‘diet’, and that I could have anything I wanted now.  I explained to her that eating the same old way will do no good.  The biggest goal was for me to become healthy for life, and live a long time for her and her brothers.  She understood pretty well and has even started to make some healthier choices when it comes to snack time too!  Keeping these healthy habits that Nutrisystem helped me learn is key to maintaining my success, and the added benefit of my children making healthier choices is a huge mom-win!

Week 43 on Nutrisystem…Results That Speak For Themselves #NSNation #Ad

O_64b0fea1b7e98c5c5b71df2f84ff768cnutrisystem_logo

Well hello week 43, you sure did sneak up on me!  I can’t believe how fast the time has gone and how the weight has melted away.  I lost 2 lbs this past week for a total of 55 lbs!!!  I never thought I would come this far, and Nutrisystem has made it all possible.

ProgressCollage1.jpg

I can TELL you about my results all day long but there is nothing that speaks louder than pictures.  I can not believe that just 10 months ago that ‘before’ woman was me!  I was so uncomfortable, hated being inside my own skin, and was desperate for a change.  Nutrisystem entered my life and changed my world completely and in the best way possible.  The foods taste amazing, the plan works, and the results are more impressive than I could’ve ever anticipated.  The road has been rough, sure, but it’s all been worth it and I wouldn’t change a minute of this journey.

I haven’t decided if I’m going to push for the last 5 lbs, I’m honestly pretty happy where I’m at right now and contemplating maintaining my weight while toning up the areas that I dislike after having children.  Either way, I will continue to share my journey with you all as it unfolds and I hope you all stay with me.

Week 42 on Nutrisystem…I Know I Can!! #NSNation #Ad

O_64b0fea1b7e98c5c5b71df2f84ff768cnutrisystem_logo

Welcome week 42!!  Nutrisystem is changing my life, one day and one ounce at a time.  This past week I did have a slow loss week, 0.2 lbs, but I’m still grateful for every single ounce.  As all women will understand, there’s a portion of the month where the scale is affected and doesn’t read accurately due to water retention.  Weeks like this I turn to my measurements to see the loss…you can’t rely on just the scale!  I measure 6 areas of my body (thigh, buttocks, waist, under bust, over bust, and bicep) and this week I was happy to see a total loss of 7 cm, almost 3 whole inches!

IKnowICan.jpg

Seriously guys, weight loss is HARD!  That’s why I share my slow/no loss weeks as they are.  It’s not a picture perfect journey and anyone who says it is, is a liar.  That’s why taking measurements is so important!  Weeks where you don’t see the scale move, you’ll see your measurements change and it’s just the right kick in the pants to keep going.  Sometimes I feel like the Little Engine That Could, but instead of ‘I think I can’, I repeat to myself ‘I KNOW I can!’.  It’s not a matter of ‘if’ I’ll hit my goal, it’s a matter of ‘when’.  Eventually I’ll get there and until then I’ll just keep chugging along and enjoying the benefits of a healthy lifestyle that I’m learning to live.  One day, one ounce at a time, I’ll get there.

Be sure to follow Nutrisystem on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest for lots of great tips and tricks that are useful for everyone, whether you’re currently on Nutrisystem or not.
