Week 27 On Nutrisystem…Many Ways To Measure Success #NSNation #Ad

O_64b0fea1b7e98c5c5b71df2f84ff768cnutrisystem_logo

Week 27 is here already?  Seriously, where has the time gone?  It seems just yesterday this journey began.  This week’s loss is 1.8 lbs for a total of loss of 39.8 lbs since January 11th when I began Nutrisystem hopeful that it would change my life forever…and boy has it ever!

When I began this Nutrisystem journey, I used a fabric tape measure took measurements in multiple areas of my body.  I had been told by a couple friends that this was a great way to gauge progress as well.  I haven’t checked in on my measurements often, usually after noticing I need to buy a few items of clothing in a smaller size.  I live in a rural area with the closest town a very small one.  Usually you’ll see people you know everywhere you go in town because everyone knows everyone.  This weekend after running into 3 different friends in 3 different places I was greeted each time with, “Oh my gosh!  Look how tiny you are!  You look great!”.  It was nice to hear that my progress is noticeable, but also made me curious to come home and see how my measurements have changed since the last time I checked.

I took my measurements on day one very unhappy and so ready for them to change.  I had no idea that in 6 short months they would change so drastically.  From day one to now, I have lost 8 cm around my bicep (3 1/3″), 20 cm over the top of my bust (7 7/8″), 35 cm underneath my bust (13 7/8″), 29 cm from my waist (11 1/2″), 21 cm around my butt/lower abdomen (8 3/8″), and 13 cm around my thigh (5 1/8″).  Seeing those numbers made me realize why my friends who hadn’t seen me since before starting Nutrisystem were pretty shocked.  I love that I get to eat amazing food, learn to be the healthiest me possible, AND lose weight.  What more could you ask for?

Week 26 On Nutrisystem…Keeping Up With Those All Important Veggies #NSNation #Ad

O_64b0fea1b7e98c5c5b71df2f84ff768cnutrisystem_logo

Wow, time just keeps on flying huh?  Week 26 is here and I’m so ready to get back to life where 4th of July goodies aren’t shoved in my face.  I surprised myself this holiday weekend and was able to resist all temptation, including the birthday cake I made for my son!  This week I lost another 1.2 lbs to bring me to a total of 38 lbs!!  I can’t believe I’m only 2 lbs away from earning my 40 lb Nutribear!

A big part of the Nutrisystem program is making sure you get your minimum of 4 non-starchy veggies a day.  Usually I’m pretty good about getting all my veggies in but this past week for one reason or another it was just impossible to get in all my veggie servings every day.  I did notice that my weight loss wasn’t as high as usual (although still considered in the ‘average’ range), I felt sluggish, my body didn’t feel at it’s best, and I felt a little more tired than a mom of 3 children like myself usually is.  I didn’t realize how important these nutrient packing veggies were until I started going without them.  This week I plan on beefing up my vegetable intake as well as mixing it up and trying new options prepared in different ways.  Never again will I slack on my veggie intake…Nutrisystem created it’s plan for a reason, and I guess I should’ve found a way to get all those veggies in.  Stay tuned and see how next week goes!  Hopefully I’ll have some new vegetable preparation ideas to share with all of you 🙂 .

Week 25 on Nutrisystem…Losing Weight, Gaining Confidence #NSNation #Ad

O_64b0fea1b7e98c5c5b71df2f84ff768cnutrisystem_logo

Time sure is flying on this journey I’m on!  It seems like I started Nutrisystem just yesterday.  Week 25 is here and let me tell you guys…I AM FEELING FABULOUS!!  This week I lost another 1.8 lbs for a total of 36.8 lbs so far!  Not bad if you ask me…I’m finally getting this weight loss thing right.  I couldn’t have come this far without Nutrisystem by my side.  Who’s ready to see some progression pictures??  I’ll include that AWFUL before so you can see the changes that have been made through following the Nutrisystem plan.

abefore.jpg

afterweek24.jpg

I remember that “Before” me.  I remember just a week-ish before taking those pictures sitting in my closet crying because the biggest clothes I owned (size 18) wouldn’t button or zip.  I wanted to hide in big baggy clothes and have the world just see past me instead of realizing I was there.  What a terrible way to feel, and I will NEVER be there again.  I am LOVING the changes that Nutrisystem is helping me make.  I feel healthier, younger, and most of all more confident than I ever thought was possible for me.

In January prior to starting Nutrisystem you would’ve never caught me in form fitting clothes…never in a million years.  Now that I’ve had to replace pretty much everything in my wardrobe I’m choosing clothes that fit my body and flatter the curves of my body rather than hide every inch of me.  I love wearing clothes that draw a little attention my way, and my husband loves the new-found confidence as well.  I have 18.2 lbs left to reach my goal and I hope you’ll all stay with me on this last leg of my journey.  I see incredible things on the horizon and can’t wait to watch them all unfold.

Week 24 On Nutrisystem…So Much More Than Numbers On A Scale #NSNation #Ad

O_64b0fea1b7e98c5c5b71df2f84ff768cnutrisystem_logo

Well well well…hello week 24.  Time is flying faster than it seems I can count.  As the time flies the pounds melt away…another 1.6 lbs this week!  That’s a total of 35 lbs and I’m feeling pretty great!  I’m feeling more energetic, sleeping better, feeling more confident, and really loving the numbers on the scale.  The numbers on the scale are nice, but there’s so many more ways that progress show.

This week I was trying to find something to wear to finally meet my husband’s boss (which I’ve been putting off for over a year).  A year ago if you told me I’d be meeting Bob, I’d have laughed because I wasn’t thrilled about meeting anyone new.  NOTHING I was pulling out of my closet was fitting, it was all too big and baggy and didn’t look very good on me at all.  No problem…I have a bag of smaller clothing stashed in the back of my closet that I dug out and rummaged through to find something to wear.  To my surprise, everything in that bag was also too big, and I needed to make a quick dash into town to buy something that actually fit me like clothes and not a huge bag.  Not only did I buy new tops and bottoms but I also had to buy new underwear because I was tired of mine falling off my bottom.  It seems like everything got big overnight leaving me with NOTHING to wear.

Having the confidence to meet new people felt GREAT!!  I loved branching out a bit and laughing with a new-found friend.  The humongous pile of old clothes shows that I’m not only changing on the inside, but also the outside, and I’ve never been more grateful for the healthy me that Nutrisystem is helping me become.

Week 23 On Nutrisystem…Where Has The Time Gone?? #NSNation #Ad

O_64b0fea1b7e98c5c5b71df2f84ff768cnutrisystem_logo

Week 23 on the Nutrisystem plan is here already…where in the world has the time escaped to?  It seems like just yesterday I was starting my Turbo week eager to start feeling healthier and better about myself.  This morning’s weigh in shows a loss of 1.4 lbs last week for a total of 33.4 lbs!  If you would’ve told me 23 weeks ago I’d weigh what I do now, I’d have laughed in your face!  I’m finding myself reaching for clothes that are actually form fitting rather than big and baggy to hide myself.  I feel great wearing size appropriate clothes and my husband loves the confidence I’m gaining (as do I!)

As with anything, there will be good and bad days regardless of how strong or determined you are.  This week I had a mostly great days but there were a couple of days that were hard to get through.  The good:

IMG_20160608_153235.jpg

I experimented with making no-bake protein balls and I’m so glad I did!  I found a couple recipes online that I really liked and changed them up just a bit to serve my needs.  Each recipe is made with ground flax seed, honey, coconut, oats, and a few other things depending on which one we’re talking about.  I added my favorite vanilla protein powder to ramp up the protein and each one can qualify as a powerfuel OR a smartcarb and have become my new favorite go-to snack.  I’m loving relying on less pre-packaged foods and taking complete control over what goes into my body.

And now…the bad 🙁

13288772_10153523934965264_938053806_o.jpg

This week my good friend Becky was called to Heaven.  Tuesday evening she lost her battle to stage 4 brain cancer and we had to say our goodbyes to an angel among us.  It was a complete shock to all who knew her.  She had been feeling kinda bad, but not horrible.  Doctors were talking about remission on the near horizon and we all thought in a short time we’d have our old Beckster back.  Her cancer became very aggressive and 2 weeks prior to her passing she was put into hospice care and was medicated with a constant morphine drip.  She fought as hard as she could but eventually just couldn’t continue any more.

Now, I’m not a big alcohol drinker.  At all.  If I do have a drink it’s something girly, and excessively high in calories.  I did a lot of research about the calories in various adult beverages and came across what I thought was the best option for me.  I found a rum that was 51 calories per fl oz, allowing me a few drinks depending on what it’s mixed with.  I chose Diet Coke as my mixer (no calories but it does contain aspartame which can affect weight loss so be careful!) and allowed myself a few drinks staying within my calories for the day.  Might I have lost more without the drinks?  Sure!  But, I chose to have a few drinks, remember my friend, and grieve my loss….and I don’t regret it one bit!

Part of the Nutrisystem plan is learning to live in the real world in a healthy way.  Before Nutrisystem I would’ve chosen to indulge in as many drinks of whatever I wanted without thought.  Now I am much more aware of every single thing I consume, and I’m thankful for the way Nutrisystem is teaching me to live a healthy, realistic lifestyle.

Week 21 On Nutrisystem…Let’s Chat Progress! #NSNation #Ad

O_64b0fea1b7e98c5c5b71df2f84ff768cnutrisystem_logo

Today is officially week 21 on Nutrisystem!  It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long at all, my goodness, where has the time gone?  Well, I don’t know where the time has gone, but I can tell you where most of my excess weight has gone!  I kissed it goodbye forever and am loving the Nutrisystem plan more and more every single day, and I didn’t think that was possible.

This week I am down another 1.6 lbs making my current total 31.6 lbs lost since January 11th!  I have 23.4 lbs left to my final goal weight and it’s SO close to becoming a reality.  I feel like I have gained my life back thanks to Nutrisystem.  I am so thankful not just for the food, but the life changes they helped me make and the constant support from the counselors and staff.  I have never been successful at getting the weight off until now.

Guess what else is FANTASTIC about this week??  I got to welcome my 30 LB Nutribear to my collection.  It’s very rewarding seeing those little bears perched on my shelf reminding me of how far I’ve come.

I can tell you all about my results until I’m blue in the face, but the old saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” I think is quite fitting here.  Here’s that AWFUL ‘before’ picture so you can all see where I was when I started the program:

Now, here’s me currently, 31.6 lbs lighter and feeling a lot better about myself:

I can’t even begin to explain how I feel.  I feel confident for the first time in a long time, happier, healthier, younger, and so many other emotions that I could go on for pages.  I still have some work to do, I hope you all will stick around with me as I continue this journey to the happiest, healthiest me yet 🙂 .

Week 20 On Nutrisystem…Getting Creative And Having Fun #NSNation #Ad

O_64b0fea1b7e98c5c5b71df2f84ff768cnutrisystem_logo

Week 20 on Nutrisystem is here!  Can you believe it?!  What a journey it has been so far, and I’m so thankful that I started it!  This week I’m down another 2 lbs for a total loss of 30 lbs!!!  I can’t wait to see the cute little 30 lb Nutribear 🙂 .

I was recently asked if I ever get ‘bored’ of the food, so I figured what better time to address it than now?  I wouldn’t say that I get bored of the food, but there ARE days where I crave something just a little different.  There are plenty of ways to adjust the Nutrisystem meals so that you still stay on plan, have what you want, and keep losing weight.

NSCollage.jpg

I wanted to share a couple of ways I change up my meals so you can see just how easy it is.  With my breakfast I get to add a powerfuel to the Nutrisystem entree, which in this case pictured I chose a nice healthy egg.  I have been LOVING transforming the muffins into french toast using my morning powerfuel.  I whip up my egg, dip the sliced muffin into the egg, and still have plenty of egg left to scramble up and enjoy.  The thick crust pizza is PERFECT to transform into garlicky breadsticks.  I ditch the red sauce and smear 1/2 tsp. softened butter on the crust.  Add 1/2 clove of minced garlic, and top with the provided cheese.  Cook as instructed on the back and you have some amazingly tasty breadsticks.

As you can see, it’s quite easy to change things up and create new foods that help curb some of your unhealthy cravings without ruining your progress.  I still have 25 lbs left to my final goal weight, and I hope you all stay with me on this journey.

Week 19 On Nutrisystem…Allowing Past Success To Carry You Through #NSNation #Ad

O_64b0fea1b7e98c5c5b71df2f84ff768cnutrisystem_logo

I can’t believe how fast the time has flown!  Here I am starting week 19 on my Nutrisystem journey and every week I just keep feeling better and better.  This week I lost 1.6 lbs for a total loss of 28 lbs so far!  The best part about this week is that the balance has finally shifted…I have officially lost more than what I have left to lose!  With 28 lbs gone, I have 27 lbs left to my final goal weight and I couldn’t be happier.

The past week, however, was a struggle for me to get through while still maintaining my weight loss and my sanity.  A couple weeks ago my Aunt Barb (the matriarch of our family and the glue that held us all together) was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.  She made the decision to not have any more invasive tests or treatments, and requested hospice care for what time she had remaining.  Her prognosis was a few weeks to a few months at best.  Monday her breathing began to become much more labored, and within two days she didn’t even look recognizable anymore, and was on a constant morphine drip to keep her comfortable.  Wednesday afternoon my Aunt was moved to active status, which meant that her body was shutting down, and her pastor came in to read her some scriptures and sing some of her favorite songs.  By Wednesday night my Aunt Barb lost her short battle with cancer, and passed away.

I am someone who has always been an emotional eater, and wanted to bury myself in chocolate, ice cream, pizza…you name it.  I am SO thankful that Nutrisystem has helped me learn to make a life change.  I ALMOST caved.  I pulled out some incredibly high calorie ice cream of my husband’s, had my hands positioned on the top of the package to tear it open and eat my feelings when the ‘healthier’ part of my mind took over.  I questioned whether it was worth it, to destroy all of the hard work I’ve put in and the progress that I have made.  I put that devil ice cream back, had a salad and some water, and felt much better about the decision that I made.  When you are on the Nutrisystem plan you don’t just eat the food mindlessly, you learn how to make better, healthier choices, one decision at a time.

When you go through hard times like I did this past week, reflect on your past successes and let them help carry you through whatever you’re faced with.  I am loving the body AND mind change Nutrisystem is helping me acheive.

Week 18 On Nutrisystem…Learning To Make Healthier Choices Through Flex Meals #NSNation #Ad

O_64b0fea1b7e98c5c5b71df2f84ff768cnutrisystem_logo

Week 18 on the Nutrisystem program is here and I am loving the results!  This week I lost 1.4 lbs for a total of 26.4 lbs!  I have never been this successful trying to lose weight, and I love how simple Nutrisystem has made the plan.  Taking out all of the guess work helps a busy mom like myself get healthy without a ton of planning.  During my time on Nutrisystem I have had one ‘flex’ lunch and dinner per week where I eat my own foods, following the Nutrisystem guidelines.  This has been a great tool to help me learn how to succeed as well as learn the proper way to maintain once I’ve reached my goal.

13129112_1033548593349546_138959191_n(1).jpg

Flex meals can vary really widely, I have made chicken bacon ranch tacos, chicken breast salad, but for me nothing beats a nice plate of well cooked fish.  I like to cook mine in a foil pouch with lemon juice and fresh ingredients like garlic, onion, jalapeno, and cilantro.  A GREAT meal for me is a nice helping of salmon, brown rice, and veggies (usually my favorites…carrots or green beans).  My flex meals are always packed with protein and fiber keeping my gut happy, in balance, and keeping my energy level up throughout the day.

I hope if nothing else, I’m inspiring you to make your life healthier one choice at a time.

Week 17 On Nutrisystem…Achieving Success With Total Support #NSNation #Ad

O_64b0fea1b7e98c5c5b71df2f84ff768cnutrisystem_logo

Good morning week 17!  I was eager to step on the scale this morning to see if following the counselor’s advice last week worked.  I had NO idea they would be so COMPLETELY right.  After two weeks of not losing a whole lot this week I lost a whopping 2.2 lbs bringing me to a total of 25 lbs lost so far!  It’s also that time again where I share a monthly picture with you all of my progress and include that dreaded “before” picture…but that’s really the best way to show you all that the Nutrisystem plan works!

abefore

AfterWeek16.jpg

I am so, SO glad to be moving away from that before picture and headed in the right direction.  Nutrisystem has helped me gain my life back and I couldn’t be more thankful.

I have been asked a few times about the food that I add in so I think it’s a good time to share that all with you.  A common misconception is when you’re on Nutrisystem, that’s all you eat.  That couldn’t be more wrong.  Depending on what plan you’re on and what you’re activity level is, you may add in more or less food than the next person.  Throughout the day you will add in powerfuels and smart carbs to help keep your metabolism going, and your energy level up.

20160501_160915-1-1.jpg

These are some of my favorite power fuels that I add in to help create a little variety.  A power fuel is anything that is between 80 and 120 calories with a minimum of 5 grams of protein.  There are TONS of items out there that can fall into this category, but as I’ve mentioned before I’m a creature of habit and these are some of my favorites that you will always find in my kitchen.

20160501_160344-1.jpg

These items are some of my favorite smart carbs.  A smart carb is any food that is between 80 and 120 calories and has a minimum of 1 gram of fiber.  That is the same loaf of sourdough that you’ll see in both pictures, but it meets the requirements of both a power fuel and a smart carb so it can be used for either.

You can see that I’m not starving or deprived by any means, and I enjoy the food that I get to eat.  Because of my activity level I add in a couple additional foods to my standard plan which keeps me eating every 2 hours 7 am to 7 pm.  I never feel hungry, I’m always satisfied, and yet I’m still losing weight!  I can’t wait to keep continuing this journey and sharing it with all of you 🙂  .
